| North Somerset Project |
Extended services to North Somerset, with a view in the longer term to establishing an independent Racial Equality Council for this area.
This project currently offers:
-Help for organisations (private and public) service providers to comply with their obligations under the Race Relations legislation.
-Training and awareness raising on racial equality and diversity issues.
-This is also a sign posting service to SARI for individuals who experience racial harassment. |
| Racial Inclusion Project |
Work with Children aged 5 - 13years and their families who are experiencing racial harassment either in school or in the community.
This project is funded by the Somerset Children's Fund.
The project offers support, advice and advocacy.
The two caseworkers work with schools to improve their racial equality practice. |
| Somerset Black Development Agency (SBDA) |
Somerset Black Development Agency (SBDA) is a project for developing the black voluntary sector infrastructure for Somerset. SBDA is an umbrella organisation for all BME groups. It will help develop the groups, capacity-build them and provide them with training so that they are able to run themselves or seek funding to do so. |
| Hidden Voices |
The Hidden Voices project supports black and minority ethnic (B&ME) individuals, who may be isolated by their location, culture or lack of English language, by providing a venue with childcare facilities and create opportunities, for people to interact through a variety of activities using the English language to communicate. |
| Racial Harassment |
We offer a free and confidential casework service to people who have been subjected to racial harassment or racist crime in Somerset.
We offer support, advice and advocacy service.
We liase with the Police, Courts, Local Authorities and other services on your behalf.
We can support you even if you do not wish to involve the Police.
This project primarily work with adults and youths over 13years. We work closely with the Racial Inclusion project when working with families of younger children. |
| Racial Discrimination |
For people, living or working in Somerset and North Somerset, we offer a free and confidential casework service to people who have been subjected to unlawful racial discrimination or victimination in employment or in the provision of goods, facilities and services. We can offer support and assistance.
Although we cannot represent you in Court or an Industrial Tribunal, we can help you get free legal advice and can assist in preparing your case.
We can also support you in making a complaint to an employer or service provider. |
| Training, Development and Consultancy |
Confidenital advice, training and policy development to organisations wishing to improve their racial equality practice in the five districts of Somerset and of North Somerset.
We help organisations comply with the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000.
We assist with community consultation on an advisory or contract basis.
We support community organisations that promote cultural diversity, racial equality and anti-racism. |
| Sedgemoor Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Project |
To create a Sedgemoor BME Forum by bringing individuals, groups and public agencies together.
Gain accurate and up-to-date information of the ethnic make-up of Sedgemoor.
Strategic leadership through policy development and research. |
| North Somerset Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Forum Project |
To reach out to those from Black and Minority Ethnic backgrounds in North Somerset to ensure they are receiving appropriate services, link people up with one another and help groups evolve; to engage with existing groups and associations; to set up a BME forum which can give the minority ethnic community a voice, be a focal point for the BME voluntary sector and promote joint working between different minority ethnic groups to increase their engagement with public agencies and promote good race relations. |
| Somerset Interpreting and Translation Service (SITS) |
The aim of the project is to establish a local, reliable, easily accessible and affordable Interpreting and Translation Service. We envisage to build a substantial database of locally based translators and interpreters to create a sustainable service for the public, voluntary sector as well as private organisations. |
| Partnerships for Older People Projects (POPP) |
Partnerships for Older People Projects (POPP) is an initiative by the Government to help improve the lives of older people. North Somerset Council has been awarded funding to invest in preventative services for older people. For the purposes of this project the term "older" is defined at 50+. |
| Somerset Mental Health Project |
This project is hosted by SREC and commissioned by Somerset PCT. The Community Development Workers work to remove any dissadvantage to accessing mental health services that are provided by the NHS. |
